Vivienne Westwood, Simon Rademan -
A tapestry of dreams
This
charitable
project (a tapestry of dreams) was well supported by the
participation of renowned London designer, Dame Vivienne
Westwood - who dressed Sebenzile Khubeka; and our
very own design master, Simon Rademan - who dressed
Thandeka Ndlovu. These gowns were generously donated to
be auctioned off in aid of this beautiful life project.
"She even
threw in a few bags and pairs of shoes for the women..." -
The Times.
The
Tapestry of Dreams non-profit project aims to enrich the
unfortunate and is run by Heather Costaras and Roz
Thomas. With the strong and inspiring support of
actress/producer Me Anel Alexander, the 2009 gala event
took place at the University of Johannesburg, in South
Africa. A strong message to “Shine” was sent out to
everyone and anyone who waits for “one day” . One day
when…
This year, it assisted 10 women from Khetani township in
the Drakensberg, KwaZulu-Natal. These women make a
difference in their community by starting small
businesses like candle making, soap making, and starting
a bakery, thanks to several sponsorships and donations
via this beautiful life project.
The crowd
spontaneously applauded when Dame Westwood delivered a
personal multimedia message, saying "Fashion is here to
help!"
