"I often say "fashion belongs to
everyone" .... and this year I will have to "coin" that phrase.
Although it looked that most gowns were "borrowed" at/for the 81st Academy Awards,
a selected few stole the show with understated elegance."
2009 Oscar fashion
brings a space-like
change to style,
that some call "oregame"-like
and others invent
new colours that I
have not ever heard
of:
"almost-mint",
"bubblegum-pink,
"Just-over-the-edge-blue",
"barely-white".
I must admit, I will
not be following the
"oregame"-thingamagics,
but looooove the new
naming of colours!
The
Academy Awards
always reflect the
incomparable
elegance of
Hollywood, but also
has its fair share
of "Hits" and
"Misses"
Abso-fashion-lutely trends at the 81st
Oscars
(Academy Awards)
-
Styles were as
diverse as always
-
Very little (or none at all)
detail on some gowns, but stong, constructive lines are
seen.
-
Wide,
ball-gown (those who should), and tight (those who can)
-
Paper-like
fabrics, Chiffons and silk taffetas and very little lace...
-
Jewelry was
sometimes just too bulky, suggested as a trend, but what a
waste of good money!
-
Where were
the handbags? Did their dates carry everything? Not a
focus at all!
-
Drapery
almost, ALMOST replaced by
"folding" techniques! - not a nice one...
-
Hair was
impeccably styled!
-
The start of
a very strange dramatic one-shoulder strap neckline trend...

Alicia Keys in Armani Prive - Living-lilac,
Romantic, soft, beautifully draped and extremely sexy with the
slit. Regally accessorized, with a soft flowing hairstyle.
The "Keep-it-current" award.
Amy Adams in red Carolina Herera - Flood-red,
structured but flowing gown. Could have gone without the
necklace though. I completely forgot who was wearing it
when I saw it the first time. The "I-am-about-to-be-hanged"
award. The gown is beautifull, though!
Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab - Just
black. "The "Simply-chic" award. Oh how I wish I
knew if I inspired her too...! A beautiful, completely
understated, but well fitted gown worn by a true goddess.
Heidi Klum in Roland Mouret - Feather
light Red. A colour I might like but this is a trend I
will not be following- it strongly reminds me of the
paper-art: oregame, and looks completely plastered
together, almost with faith... The "just-about-enough-off-cutts"
award.
Jessica Biel in Prada - Yesterday's
white. The "Oh my tjinderatiouslike-award" It is the
one gown I sincerely do not understand, nor like, and simply
cannot explain....
Kate Winslet in Yves Saint Laurent, Stefano
Pilati - Dressed to win! The "Grace-Kelly"
award. A new royal to the screen and the red carpet.
A neckline that I suspect will pop up almost anywhere from now
on!
Marion Cotillard in Dior - The
"lend-me-a-gown-quickly" award. This gown overpowered this
winning actress from last year. It was like replacing a
model on the runway at the last minute...
Meryl Streep in Alberta Ferretti -
She should be declaired a saint, or bestowed the honour of
"dame" or even "HRH". The picture is not flattering but
wow, did she look radiant! The "Not-from-this-world"
award.
Miley Cyrus in Zuhair Murad - the
"Barbie-turns-50-this-year" award. This one opens a can of
worms in my mind. The belt, the layers, her age, the
length. I give this the "aggeneeman"-award.
Natalie Portman in Rudarte - The "Truely-Romantic"
award, Ah, how feminine! Perfect length,
interesting drapery, perfectly accessorized. One of my
favourites, for sure!
Penelope Cruz in vintage Pierre Balmain - The
"Enough-now" award. The detail on this gown is
fascinating, almost too much, but why not? She was a
winner and walked away with an Oscar!
Sarah Jessica Parker in Dior - The
"Two-sinners" award. I could never understand the
fascination with Me Parker's dress sense. Even now,
the "Marie-Antoinette look was almost "out there" and wow, what
a picture it would have made. Again, the length, the belt?
Taraji P. Henson in Roberto Cavalli -
the "Don't-I-look-fat?" award goes to all these horisontal
layers. Many love this gown, but the taller and slimmer
look remains my favourite, regardless of what your size is...
Vanessa Hudgens in Marchesa - the
"Successfully-fixed" award for an existing gown that is made
longer. The bustline detail confuses me because the fabric
itself is magical, and extraordinarily beautiful.
... And then there was Ann Hathaway!
My favourite of all favourites! A difficult style to wear,
but wow, did she pull it off. 10/10, girlfriend!
