"I have always said that,
when in doubt about true style .... you should rather
'take away" than 'add on". This year at the 80th
Academy Awards, it was evident that the night belonged
to those that understood elegance."

Abso-fashion-lutely trends at the 80th Oscars
(80th Academy Awards)
-
Styles were this OR that, and not this AND that
-
Very
little (or none at all) detail on some gowns.
-
Multiple "ladies in red".
-
Chiffons and silk taffetas
-
Darker jewel colours (and even black) were popular
-
Jewelry was not the focus! ... and often
miss-matched.
-
Handbags extremely small and often ill-matched
-
Drapery were everywhere
-
Hair
was almost "untidy" but organized
-
Many
diagonal
necklines

Nancy O'Dell - The
gown many matric-farewell girl would want to wear, but
very few can. Luckily "all" stayed in place...
I suspect, by looking at her tan-lines, that boob-tjoops
are a fashionable item? Definitely sexy, but not
so classy, Me O''Dell.
Keisha Whitaker -
Almost flawless and almost bridal. Hollywood glamour
that will inspire many to come...
Heidi Klum
in John Galliano Couture - Dynamic and
dramatic, but with accessories that match the carpet and
not the dress! Very few women can get away with this
overpowering look. Me Klum does!
Helen Mirren
in Georges Chakra - Spencer-like
sleeves... this might look like an after thought. I do
not mind the drapery, the colour is beautiful, but the
sleeves look borrowed from another gown.
Hilary Swank
in Versace - Soft in black. Stylishly
embellished with lace flowers. Would have loved to
see some bling on the ears.
Jenifer Hudson
in Roberto Cavalli - Looks a little like
"something" on top of another... Me Hudson celebrates
her fuller figure with this, but should rather have not!
Julie Christie
in Tanya Gill - This is why short is a no-no
on the red carpet, --- and another spencer sleeve
add-on? I am completely confused by this.
Catherine Heigl
in Escada - One of my two favourites of the
evening! Classy and chic! Drapery galore!
...at perfect angles, and a simple knotted circle as a
focus on the shoulder.
Kelly Preston
in Roberto Cavalli - Hemline gone wrong?
It easily looks like the fabric was not enough to do the
drapery.
Marion Cotillard
in Jean Paul Gaultier - A risky but beautiful
mermaid style... complete with "fish scales" on the
gown.
Penelope Cruz
in Chanel Couture - Too much "Moulin
Rouge" going on! Are her dresses always too long,
or is she just too short for everything she likes
wearing?
Renee Zellweger
in Carolina Herera - Shining like a
star! This is what a true Hollywood star should
shine like...
Tilda Swinton
in Alber Elbaz for Lanvin - I often
criticize what me Swinton is wearing, but this...? I
suppose its lots less than disastrous. Special care
should be taken when "safe dressing": ...that it
does not become "boring dressing..."
Amy Adams
in Proenza Schuler - What would the
belt be for? And who did me Adams borrow the
pretty vintage bag from?
Anne Hathaway
in Marchesa - Flowers are for
arrangements in pots, not on dresses, but the colour
really compliments Me Hathaway's fair skin.
Calista Flockhart
in Vintage Valentino - Gothic and
regal! The beauty of this gown is in the
simplicity thereof.
Cameron Diaz
in Dior by John
Galliano - Did Me Diaz grab this
crinkling masterpiece from the washing line? ... or
should it look like the iron was cold?
Cate Blanchett
in Dries van Noten - Pregnant women
are beautiful and almost always forgiven for fashion
mistakes. I hope Me Blanchett does not stay
pregnant forever!
Jennifer Garner
in Oscar de la Renta - Too long, but
engagingly opulent! Love the handbag, not the
bracelet, and please loose the necklace...
Nicole Kidman
in Balenciaga - Never in a million
years did I think I would like this ensemble, but with
Me Kidman being pregnant, this is incredibly stylish and
perfect for her!
